Many global health practitioners and students struggle with the true meaning and practical application of human rights in their work. This program presents examples of health programs utilizing rights-based approaches to improving health services. Drawing from Dr Elvira Beracochea’s book “Rights-Based Approaches to Public Health” and her own international experience, the program helps participants understand and use rights-based approaches in their own careers and jobs.
The program includes a number of the tools and domestic and international case studies that demonstrate how global and public health professionals can help to fulfill the right to health of every citizen. This program will help you use of the principles of right-based approaches and ensure there is non-discrimination, and every patients dignity and rights are respected. The program also will show you how to contribute to monitor and protect human rights as defined in international human rights documents addressing children’s rights, women’s rights, environmental issues such as the right to healthy food, air, and water. You will develop a practical application of the right to health to those you serve in your community program, organization or area of influence.
