RGH Video Blog – RGH 100 for Foundations

Welcome to Realizing Global Health. My name is Dr. Elvira Beracochea and this is the Global Health Video Class. Today, I want to talk about a very important program that I love. It’s my favorite because this is the program that allows us to see the results while working in the front lines. That program is called ‘RGH 100’. We call it RGH 100 because we realize global health in 100 days. Where? We do this in health facilities, clinics, hospitals, health centers, etc. How? Every ten days we help the team in that health facility to achieve milestones. For example, these milestones can include putting the job descriptions in place, putting procedures in place, putting infection control systems in place, or creating outreach programs. Also, working with community health workers and integrating them in the facility.

Every 10 days there is an important milestone to recognize. Another example of milestones include creating or updating the community map with a denominator so health workers can really measure how well they are doing. Every 10 days you see results and you see how the health system is really becoming a little more self-reliant and self-sustainable. Participants and collaborators do this on their own – making use of existing resources. That is what is fascinating because that is what delivers lasting results.

So I really want you to consider the RGH 100 program for your communities, your health programs, and your organization because, with RGH 100, you are doing 3 important things:

  1. You are creating a platform for all of your programs to be implemented. These programs may include HIV/AIDS, maternal health, and reproductive health. You have a platform to implement these programs because you have a health facility that already has infrastructure and health manpower to really deliver quality healthcare.
  2. You are creating a working environment for these health providers to really deliver quality health services. You are going to do it in a way that is going to motivate them because they are going to see the results of their work. They are going to be motivated to stay in those health facilities because they can see how they grow, help the community and how they save lives.
  3. This health facility is a place that will become the center of the community where community health workers, volunteers, health staff and the whole community work together because they will have the systems to do that and the structure that will support them to keep taking a step forward.

Every 10 days they are going to see the impact of their work together. That measurable result is what motivates them and that is what grabs them. That is also why I want to invite you to our next webinar so you can learn more about the RGH 100 program. I hope you can also become part of the program. Until next time, keep making a difference!
