Aid Effectiveness in Global Health: One Unified and Coordinated Approach
There are many approaches to improve Global Health. Every organization, donor and initiative has its own. I would like to invite to consider one unified coordinated global health approach and the impact it would have if all stakeholders in global health used the same approach. I want you to imagine how much more effective and sustainable our results would be. A unified coordinated approach would help coordinate the work of every organization, project or initiative so they can help every healthcare provider do their share to develop their country’s health system and deliver evidence-based healthcare at the highest attainable standard.
This approach will include five “ONEs”:
- One common goal to improve how healthcare providers deliver services and implement health programs that reach everyone in their areas of coverage;
- One national health coordinating and planning committee with representation of all stakeholders that reports to the Ministry of Health and WHO;
- One annual health plan for each country in which all public, private and civil society stakeholders participate and agree to implement;
- One health information system to which all stakeholders report and use to monitor progress of the annual plan, and;
- One health geographic accountability map in which each health district or provincial team pinpoints what public, private or civil society organization, donor or initiative is supporting what geographic area, what facilities, and what programs they are helping implement.
Now I have a question for you:
How much more effective would your work in global health be if all the stakeholders in the countries you work used this approach?
