HFAN Transformation project in DR Congo: Update
RGH is working on demonstration projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo to transform health centers in 100 days into effective health facilities that meet international quality standards and meet the health needs of the communities they serve. The goal is to transform BOLINGO Health Center in Kinshasa (Binza-Ozone Health Zone), and Lweba Health Center in South Kivu Province (Nundu health zone) into “Health for all NOW” (HFAN) health centers in 100 days and make them leaders in the delivery of quality health care in DR Congo.
RGH recently completed a second trip to facilitate the continuation of HFAN program activities at the two selected health centers. The trip to Kinshasa also provided extend TA support to Dr. Sammy Eoba Lubunga to facilitate the launch of HFAN Program activities at Lweba Health Center in Nundu health zone; Development of M&E and supervision plans to facilitate HFAN Program implementation at both health centers; and mobilization additional financial resources that will contribute to the development and the expansion of HFAN transformation program activities at the targeted health centers of Binza-Ozone and Nundu health zones in collaboration with the local partners, local communities, and the local NGOs.
RGH met with the BOLINGO Health Center senior staff and successfully accomplished the following activities:
(a) Continued orientation of the staff on HFAN Program activities;
(b) Selection of priority objectives to be carried out and that correspond to the allocated budget;
(c) Development and completion of key service checklists to be used during the training and during service delivery at the Health Center;
(d) Development and completion of plans to renovate the Play Now Room area, the delivery and the operating rooms; and
(e) Completion of the minor renovation activities for the Health Center that included the painting of the remaining walls.
In the coming weeks, RGH will continue to follow up with the BOLINGO health center managers to ensure that planned delivery of quality reproductive health services are carried out in compliance with the established protocols or checklists for service delivery. Health center staff will complete the remaining minor renovation activities to ensure continued delivery of health education and vaccination activities at the health center. RGH will maintain contact with the EPI and NTB directors to ensure mobilization of additional resources to facilitate the development and the expansion of Health Center services.
