Program Overview:
Errors abound in global health. In this program, you will learn how to use the Six Sigma Approach to reduce the errors in healthcare delivery and in global health projects and programs and improve results. You will learn to work at Six Sigma level, that is, you will be able to reduce errors to less than 3.4 per one million opportunities. That is Six Sigma Performance.
Who benefits from this program
What you will learn
Here are some of the errors in healthcare delivery you will be able to correct. For example, a mother misses one antenatal visit or more, and nobody finds out why and helps her take care of herself and future baby. Imagine how many lives you can save it that happened less than 3.4 times out of one million antenatal appointments.
Here are other error you can significantly reduce using the The RGH Six Sigma Method: a nurse-midwife does not follow up if a pregnant mother has decided to have a supervised delivery; no one in the health facility checks to see if those that received a mosquito net in the last appointment are actually using it; a patient with fever is given malaria treatment without being diagnosed using the rapid test or some other lab test; a patient with chronic cough is not tested and diagnosed for TB; a child’s diarrhea is not treated according to the latest approved standard treatment guidelines; or a sick child is examined but the provider does not wash his hands before doing it or does not use a mask. You know these errors and more happen every day in health facilities all over the world. This program will help you make these errors a rare event, that is, you will see them happen less than 3.4 times out of a million opportunities. That is Six Sigma level of performance we all need to strive for.
You will also learn to reduce errors in global health projects and programs. Reducing these errors will ensure the project or program makes a bigger impact. Here are some examples of errors you will learn to reduce significantly: not integrating family planning services in every healthcare delivery process; not having accurate progress indicators of that show how well the project is working and where corrections need to be made on a daily basis; buying medical equipment and not ensuring that they are added to the facility inventory, accounted for and managed properly; training staff and not ensuring the training is used and applied and their performance improves; or not ensuring the project interventions are sustainable after the project ends.
In this program, you will learn how to design global health projects, health interventions and services in a way that eliminates these and other errors and missed opportunities. You will learn and apply the RGH Six Sigma method to reduce errors in your current position and improve the results you are achieving now in the following areas:
- Maternal Health
- Child Health, or
- Quality of Healthcare Delivery
- and your own area of expertise

How the program works:
A week is the perfect unit of time to start reducing errors and start improving your clinic or health center. In this program, you will learn how to work differently and manage your day to reduce errors that prevent you from achieving your monthly targets. Every day you will receive a lesson by email and an assignment for you to apply what you learned. You read the lesson, think about it, and do something with what you just learned. After completing your daily assignment, you will send it back to your personal coach for feedback. Every week, there will be a lesson and discussion with Dr Elvira on Zoom so you can ask all your questions and share with other students. The Zoom discussions and Q&A are recorded so you can go over the main points you may have missed.
You will receive a certificate after you complete all assignments including a “Six Sigma Success Plan”. In just 7 Days this program will help you ensure your clinic is leading the way in quality healthcare in your community and can run smoothly with or without you there! You will get free weekly coaching for three months to implement your “Six Sigma Success Plan” and advance your career as recognized efficient Six Sigma manager!
