RGH Video Blog – Developing Effective Health Providers
Hello, welcome to Realizing Global Health. My name is Dr. Elvira Beracochea. I am the president, CEO and founder of Realizing Global Health—where we work to develop self-reliant, sustainable health systems that deliver quality healthcare to everyone everywhere every day. Today, we will continue to talk about what really makes a difference in global health.
The topic for today is the fourth key in the health system. We’ve talked about understanding the health systems, understanding the health programs, and understanding health services, facilities and how they work. Now, we will talk about the 4th element. The 4th key to sustaining any results in global health is having good, high-performing health providers. That is where many of us come in because health providers or health professionals are called the human health resources or human health development. No matter what it is called, we are talking about the people who work in global health whether in a hospital, clinic, non-profit organization, or within the government. Together, we look at how we can make a bigger difference and save more lives. Today, that is what I want to talk about, the people, the health professionals, and how we can help them.
We are talking about doctors, nurses, planners, policy-makers, and consultants. We all need to work together and have a common understanding of how each of us is going to contribute to each other’s work. This is why we need to focus on three things, we need to:
- Communicate
- Collaborate
- Coordinate
The most important thing I always tell my clients is “you are not alone.” You are surrounded by people and we need to create bridges that connect us with the different levels of the health system. We talked about how the health system has a governance level, a leadership level and then a healthcare delivery level that includes the following sectors: private, public or non-profit/society. So how do we build bridges across all of that? We need to work together. That is the most important thing.
At RGH, we’ve created programs that enable professionals to work together. This is where our contribution really makes a much bigger impact because it gets amplified by the ability to work in coordination and network with everybody. We have to make those bridges that connect us to the hospitals or universities and policy makers, etc.
We need to create those bridges and so it is really up to us to do that. Think about how we can help our health providers and how they can perform better. We also need to see how they can support others to work better by communicating what they do, collaborating and coordinating their work in a different way.
Next week, we are going to talk about a very important topic, an important key in the sustainability of global health which is governance. How do we really make governance work for everybody everywhere every day? Don’t forget to connect with us of Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. I believe that if we work together and create those bridges, we can really make a bigger impact and realize global health. See you next time!
